A great turn out for Captains Day and conditions were brutal. When I arrived many told me that they had experienced the worst conditions. The Captain’s marquee (well B&Q gazebo – no expense spared at the Glamorganshire) had been blown away and was now lashed between the cabin and the toilets! I knew they would eventually come in handy one day! The wind seemed to get stronger and stronger and 34 points seemed a long way off. Jammie James and I had scored 9 points after 9 holes and the dream was over.
The Captain, Lady Captain and the team at the cabin provided both shelter and hearty fare for all to enjoy. Many departed the ninth tee with an ice cream in hand hoping to break 20! That made the 35 points of Campbell Lammie and Paul Fullbrook a great winning score in the conditions, so well done to them.
Last Saturday saw the Millennium Trophy won by Phil Carling and his team despite leaving a 2 inch putt, one inch short they still managed to win on count back narrowly beating the Greenslades.
This week sees a strong field compete in the Club Championship qualifier, there are a few spaces available at the moment. The course is open around the qualifier but the greens staff will be cutting pins in the morning. Conditions this weekend, sunny with light winds should see good scoring but as usual 2 – 75’s should qualify. I’m just looking forward to seeing the power of Jamie Ringer being tamed by the finesse of Anna Carling! It would be great to see 2 sub-par rounds from anyone, both Jordan and Mark Lewis are playing well and that would be some achievement. Players in the afternoon round go out at 13:00 and all competitors will have teed off by 14:30. The score board will be manned by the M&H Team so please come down and watch the competitors coming in.
Good luck to all the competitors and let’s hope the weather forecasters are right.
