Match Captain’s Report – April 30, 2014

Last Saturday’s 4BBB was, as I am sure you all know the qualifier for the Earl of Plymouth cup, with the top 16 going through to the K. O. Stages.

Congratulations to all those who qualified, you now have another competition match to fit into your busy schedules. Well done to Mark Portlock and Peter Goodfellow winning the competition with a score of 66, but special mention must go to Spencer Robinson ( hcp 8 ) and Harry Williams ( hcp 17 ) aged 14 and 15 respectively who came second on count back, also with a 66. Young men who I am sure we will see and hear a lot of around the club in coming years.

Individual performance of the day clearly goes to Patrick Welch ( hcp 5 ) who, playing on his own due to the late withdrawal of his partner and  finishing during the evening in torrential rain scored a 68 to finish 3rd overall.

We also had a notable event in the twos, with 3 members of one group Richard Collins, Will Hutchings, and Paul Davies all making birdies on the seventh. David Carey the fourth member of the group, you really let the side down there!

Considering the 4 ball medal format and the blustery conditions, play moved well throughout the day with only a few exceptions. Some groups did take a while longer than others due to encountering a few problems and those which I was able to talk to on the course where aware of there position and endeavouring to due something about it.

Jubilee Cup and Stableford scoring on Saturday coming, therefore no worries about taking 9 to get out of a bunker.

Happy golfing

Alan Buchan
